If you could create your boyfriend's personality, what kind of tweaks would you do? Would he be more romantic? Jealous? Aggressive?
Izawa Riiko was giving the chance to create the personality and appearance of her perfect boyfriend. Little did she know she was going to get a life size package at her door with what appears to be a man inside. As being the only participant in a company's survey to figure out what the perfect boyfriend would be, they send her a robot lover with the characteristics from the survey she completed. The creator of the robot insists that she should just try him out and after a week she could send him back if she is unhappy with it. He tells her to make it easier for her to be comfortable around the robot to just think of it as an electrical appliance.
Riiko, at first, doesn't want anything to do with the robot. She slowly starts to get used to him, and gives him the name Tenjo Night. He is indeed her perfect boyfriend, except for the fact that he is a robot and not a living, breathing human.
Riiko begins to get close to her boss, Asamoto Soshi, at work. This sparks jealousy within Night. Night wishes to see Riiko's happiness but cannot help that he was programmed to be her perfect boyfriend.
An accident occurs and Night's programming goes haywire. He begins to develop real human emotions. He really does love Riiko, not because he was programmed to but because his feelings are genuine and pure. With Night developing human emotions Riiko starts to develop feelings for him whilst having feelings for Soshi. She is torn. Does she pick the perfect robot boyfriend? Or does she pick Soshi, who can start a family with her and grow old together? What would you do if you were in this position? Who would you pick? Could you fall in love with a electrical appliance if it showed that it loved you back?!
This was the very first Japanese Drama I ever watched. This is the one that opened the door for all the others I watched afterward. This is by far my number one favorite Japanese Live Action Drama ever. Something would have to more amazing than Zettai Kareshi to bump it from the number one slot. This drama will have you rolling on the floor laughing one minute and reach for a tissue another.
