The "Doctor Helicopter" system was legalized in Japan in June 2007. A medical team is dispatched to the patients on a helicopter to provide medical care in the field as soon as possible. One day, four young physicians are assigned to this latest medical system. The doctors experience traumatic medical situations, deal with personal ambitions, witness the fragility of life, and they grow personally and professionally. --Fuji TV


If doctors can get to the emergency site one second soon, they may be able to make a difference in a life and death situation. Thus the doctor helicopter program was started. This drama takes on the journey of four flight doctors as they train to learn what it takes to be a flight doctor.

When you put a team together consisting of the "elite" of their medical schools they are bound to clash in some way. Throw them in with a flight nurse who has been on the job for longer and the clashing is inevitable.

Aizawa Kosaku the wonder-boy who's gifted hands make it easy for him to perform under the pressure of the medical world. Shirashi Megumi the princess from a family of doctors who is trying to make a name for herself even if that means not being able to show her true feelings. Hiyama Mihoko the tough girl who despite her appearance and attitude is someone who is quite capable of feeling other emotions. Fujikawa Kazuo the who is doing whatever it takes to become a good doctor even when the odds are set against him. Saejima Haruka the flight nurse who's worked hard to become a nurse and feels she shouldn't have to prove herself to the newly asigned flight doctors in training.

When you have a team that clashes it's only inevitable that they become one with each other and work well together. Watch as this team of flight doctors and flight nurse overcome amazing obstacles, heart breaking situations and learn to work and grow as doctors and as a nurse.

There are two seasons of Code Blue and one Special. The second season released somewhat recently and there is nothing that I've seen about there being another Special to follow along with the second season.

I enjoyed watching this drama. I got a bit squeamish during some of the operation parts. There's are several bloody scenes so this drama isn't for the faint of heart. If you can't handle the simplest of cuts then I wouldn't recommend this show to you. There are also several heartbreaking moments that had me crying so if you're up for it make sure you have tissue close by to dry those teary eyes.
