Kanzaki Nao is said to be so honest that she is "stupidly honest". She is the the type of pure heart that normal people don't believe exists. She will fall for anything every time it happens. Even though she knows she's being made fun of she doesn't mind at all. She believes that it's better for people to be honest.

One day, as Nao gets home, she notices a large black package sitting in front of her apartment door with a thick black envelope sitting on top addressed to her the sender is the LGT office. Unsure of what's going on, Nao decides to open up the package and see what's inside. When she sees that it's a large amount of money (100 million yen to be exact), she doesn't seem to think that what's going on is real. She covers the box back up, takes a breather and opens it again only to discover that the money is in fact real. In a panic, Nao tears open the envelope and sees that it's an invitation for the Liar Game Tournament.

Nao discovers a video tape at the bottom of the package. She decides to play it to find out what's going on. The video shows a creepy little puppet guy who intoduces himself as the dealer, Leronira and that since she is watching the video than that must mean she has decided to participate in the "Liar Game". He explains that canceling her participation in the game will not be accepted.

Leronira explains the rules of the first round of the game. Simply put, both opponents must try to rob the other of their money. How they manage to rob the other person doesn't matter because the game is based on mutual consent and will not be treated as a criminal act. The game will last 30 days and whoever has the most money at the end of the time frame will win. Someone from the LGT office will come and collect the money. If one opponent manages to steal money from the other opponent, the money that they get will end up being prize money. However, that money that was lost will have to be paid back by the loser putting them into debt. Depending on the outcome of the game, the winner could possibly become 100 million yen richer. Whereas, the loser could end up being 100 million yen in debt to the LGT.

Another black envelope shows up. Enclosed is information on Nao's opponent. Fujisawa Kazuo, who turns out to be Nao's teacher from when she was in middle school (or high school). He's someone that Nao has always looked up to and trusts very much. When Fujisawa explains that they aren't the enemy of each other but rather that the game was a cleverly-designed fraud made up in order for the LGT to steal the money from each other them and put them into debt. Fujisawa explains that he has a plan in order for that to not happen. He thinks it would be safest to place the money in a safety deposit box and then at the end of the 30 days, retrieve it and they wouldn't lose any money. Nao, being so "stupidly honest", hands her money over to Fujisawa and goes on her merry little way thinking that they managed to cheat the system. Only when Nao gets home and a LGT black envelope shows up saying she's losing the game does she start to panic. She calls her old teacher to confirm that he's only keeping the money safe for her and he tells her that he is and for her to not worry about it. Feeling bad about doubting him, she goes to his house to apologize. She over hears him on the phone explaining to another person how he tricked her and that it was so easy to fool her because of her being so "stupidly honest".

Nao decides to try going to the police for help. But the police tell her that there's nothing really they can do because there's not enough going on for them to be able to take action. The officer suggest asking a swindler for advice and that a swindler who is said to be a genius at it will be getting out of prison.

Nao does research to find this genius swindler and locates his article in the newspaper. The swindler's name is Akiyama Shinichi and he was responsible for putting a multi-national organization in bankruptcy.

Will Akiyama be willing to help Nao get the 100 million yen back from Fujisawa?

Liar Game season two takes place shortly after the first season.

Nao and Akiyama haven't heard anything more from the LGT in awhile. They believe they are finally finished with the game until Nao receives another black envelope. This time the LGT has much more in-store for Nao.

I really enjoyed both seasons of this drama. The second season does leave you hanging because the made the ending into a movie. I'm still waiting for it to come out on BluRay so I can watch it but I'm sure if it's even slightly as entertaining as the first and second season the wait will be worth it. If you haven't already watched Liar Game season 1 and 2 I recommend you give it a shot. I'm actually watching it over again just to keep it fresh in my mind for when the movie comes out.

Here's a fan made MV for Liar Game. I wish I could've found a video with the actually Liar Game music but this is the best video I could find. It'll hopefully give you an idea of what's going on in the drama. Enjoy.

This is a video of the opening of Season 1 and Season 2 to give you an idea of how the music is for the drama. Very catchy. I like it. ^__^

Yes! There is a season 2 that finished up a few months ago. There are 9 episodes to Season 2. There is also a movie that came out in March. It hasn't been released on DVD/BluRay yet so I haven't watched it. It will conclude what's happened at the end of season 2. I'm excited. I hope it comes out soon but it probably wont be until later summer or early fall before it's released.

You have to find season 2. You wont be disappointed. Akiyama is amazing and Nao is such a sweet heart. She's like those rare pure souls you hear about. Even though during some of the Liar Game she did her share of deceiving ppl but it was only to help them out in the end so she kinda counters her deceiving with a good deed. I've actually watched some of the episodes several times... and I listen to the opening theme song often. This is by far one of the best shows I've seen. ^__^

I agree, it is really one of the best! I like her pure heart too. It reminds of me of "Fruit Basket" anime. The main character Tooru helps everyone and loves everyone. She says something like this: eventhough some people think that they are taking advantage of me, I like helping them, so it is ok.
Then Yuki says: I am selfish, because I am being good to others because I want them to like me. Then Tooru says: It is always good to give them a benefit of a doubt..
(I don't quite remember the conversation, but it was something like this :))

Fruits Basket is a good anime. I wish they would've continued on with the story. Maybe one day I'll find time to read the manga and find out what happens.

The movie should be out by the end of the summer (I hope) or maybe in the fall. I can't wait for it. I really wanna know how this all ends.
